2013 Summer Camp Ages 5-8
Living Lightly on Our Earth June 3-14
Children will explore opportunities to reduce their ecological footprint. Areas of focus will include creating a UNM-Taos community garden, recycling and exploring wind and solar energy. The session will include a day trip to the Greater World Community.
Uncovering the Ancient Culture of Northern New Mexico July 17-28
Children will learn about the Anasazi culture of Northern New Mexico through hands on experiences with traditional techniques making tools, pottery, baskets and growing a “three sisters” garden. They will also learn the fundamentals of archaeology as they conduct their own archaeological dig! The session will include a day trip to Bandalier National Park.
Fun with Fine Arts July 1-12
Children will learn the fundamental skills of drawing, painting and print making, culminating in an exhibit of their work. The session will include a tour of the Hardwood Museum and local art galleries.
Eco-Systems of Northern New Mexico July 15-26
Children will explore the High Desert, River and High Mountain Eco-Systems of our community. Students will learn about the geology, flora, fauna and weather that make each of these eco-systems vibrant. The session will involve a trip to each of these unique eco-systems and include a river trip down the Rio Grande. The session will culminate in a collaborative creation of mini biospheres.
* Enrollment must meet a minimum of 10 students per session and is limited to 15 students.
Each session will include UNM-Taos Faculty participation.
